This mirrors upstream's EVE_MESSAGE_STREAM_VERSION in packages/eve/src/protocol/message.ts. Read that constant when advancing the baseline; the value does not follow from whether the event vocabulary changed. eve 0.35.0 raised it to 22 while adding no event type and removing none. The 0.39.1 raised it to 23 for durable input.resolved events, 0.46.1 raised it to 24 for durable action.input.appended events, and 0.50.0 raised it to 25 for delta-only text streaming.

Remarks

eve 0.54.2 is the first published release whose schema-v4 kernel-effect action set excludes the obsolete task-update value. Earlier schema-v4 servers use the same version number and can still advertise that action, so there is no discriminator that permits strict validation across the cutover. Separately, eve 0.52.3 added the accepted-message delivery identity required to correlate an existing-session send with its durable events. Upgrade the eve server before adopting a client version that declares this minimum. The message-stream protocol remains version 25.

Remarks

eve raised the schema to 2 in 0.35.0, where static instructions became a list whose entries carry content and a system or user role. Eve 0.45.0 uses version 3 for canonical source ownership, bindings, composition diagnostics, node identities, and kernel effects. Eve 0.45.1 raised it to version 4 for first-class memory-provider inspection. Schema v3 preserves the historical task-update kernel-effect action, while the schema-v4 contract published by eve 0.54.2 accepts only subagent-call, task-cancel, and workflow-tool-call. Every supported version exposes the identity fields this package projects, and its complete payload remains available through Raw. A version outside this set is rejected rather than parsed optimistically.
